Respiratory Endoscopic Evaluation
Respiratory ailments among horses are remarkably prevalent and stem from a diverse range of causes. Infectious respiratory conditions, brought about by bacterial and viral infections—like strangles and influenza—affect equines of all ages, with young horses, particularly those housed in larger groups or facilities, being especially susceptible.
Non-infectious respiratory issues also occur frequently, often arising from hypersensitivities to allergens within the stable environment. Conditions like inflammatory airway disease in younger horses and equine asthma, previously referred to as recurrent airway obstruction (RAO), chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), or ‘heaves’ in older horses, fall under this category.
I possess the necessary qualifications to conduct a respiratory endoscopy for your horse. This procedure entails the insertion of a scope through the horse’s throat to assess the condition of the trachea, larynx, and airways. If you suspect your horse is grappling with a respiratory anomaly, I am prepared to perform a comprehensive, professional respiratory endoscopy and assessment at your stable or facility.
Gastrointestinal Examination
Gastroscopy offers an avenue to diagnose stomach-related issues, including ulcers, within horses. This process involves the introduction of a flexible video endoscope into the horse’s system, enabling a thorough examination of the stomach lining. Administered under light sedation, the procedure is painless for your horse. With specialized gastroscopy equipment at my disposal, I am capable of executing this procedure conveniently at your stable or facility.
Services available remotely
Radiography
I am fully equipped with a portable radiography system to examine the bones and joints of your horse. Radiography is often the initial method employed to diagnose lameness and fractures. This imaging technique can be conducted conveniently at your facility or stable.
My cutting-edge mobile x-ray equipment empowers me to both diagnose and address injuries and alignments on-site. The advantage of this approach is twofold: there’s no necessity for your horse to travel, and the x-ray procedure can be carried out within a familiar and soothing environment where your horse feels at ease.
Ultrasound
Using a portable ultrasound machine, I can perform assessments for your horse directly at your stable or facility. Ultrasound serves as an invaluable veterinary tool for diagnosing and appraising musculoskeletal conditions, encompassing injuries to joints, tendons, muscles, and ligaments. It also proves beneficial for examining abdominal discomfort, swellings, equine pregnancies, and conducting cardiology evaluations.
